The Xbox 360 Slim was released on June 18, 2010, in North America and July 16, 2010, in Europe. The new system features hardware that is a significant change from the original Xbox 360. Due to these hardware changes, the hard drive of an original 360 is not compatible with the new Slim version. If you have a new Slim console and wish to use your saved data on your new console, you must transfer the data from one system to the other.
1. Power off the console from which you are transferring the data.
2. Locate the hard drive; it's on the top end of the console when the console is oriented upright.
3. Press the button on the front end of the hard drive, and lift the hard drive from the console.
4. Connect the hard drive to the transfer cable by plugging the hard drive's jutting connector into the larger end of the cable.
5. Connect the end of the transfer cable with the USB plug to the new Slim console. The USB ports are located on the front of the system in the lower-right corner.
6. Power on the new console.
7. Select "Yes" when a message appears asking if you would like to start the transfer.
8. Power off the console when the transfer is complete, and remove the transfer cable from the Slim console.
Warnings:
If the transfer message does not appear when you start your Slim, power off the system. Restart the system with the transfer cable unplugged, and update your console's software from the dashboard blade. Power off the system, and plug the transfer cable back in, then power on. The transfer should then start.
Xbox transfer cables only work with the original-style HDD. The hard drive in the new Slim console is different...
