1. Power off the console from which you are transferring the data.
2. Locate the hard drive; it's on the top end of the console when the console is oriented upright.
3. Press the button on the front end of the hard drive, and lift the hard drive from the console.
4. Connect the hard drive to the transfer cable by plugging the hard drive's jutting connector into the larger end of the cable.
5. Connect the end of the transfer cable with the USB plug to the new Slim console. The USB ports are located on the front of the system in the lower-right corner.
6. Power on the new console.
7. Select "Yes" when a message appears asking if you would like to start the transfer.
8. Power off the console when the transfer is complete, and remove the transfer cable from the Slim console.
Warnings:
If the transfer message does not appear when you start your Slim, power off the system. Restart the system with the transfer cable unplugged, and update your console's software from the dashboard blade. Power off the system, and plug the transfer cable back in, then power on. The transfer should then start.
Xbox transfer cables only work with the original-style HDD. The hard drive in the new Slim console is different and is not compatible.
If you have downloads from Xbox Live that are transferred to the new console, they will only be accessible with the gamertag with which they were originally purchased. To update the license so that the content can be used by any profile signed in on your console, you must update the information on the official Xbox website to include the new console.
The transfer can take anywhere from minutes to several hours, depending on the amount of date being transferred.
